Litton Confirms U.S. Probe: Litton Industries confirmed that Defense Department investigators have asked for documentation about Litton’s repair of gyroscopes used in navigation systems of commercial and military planes. The probe stems from a civil whistle-blower lawsuit currently under seal in federal court in Los Angeles alleging that Litton has overcharged for the work by millions of dollars, the Wall Street Journal reported. The gyroscopes are sold by Litton’s Aero Products division in Woodland Hills and built and repaired mainly by one of Litton’s Canadian units. Litton spokesman Robert Knapp said the Beverly Hills-based company has not been served with such a suit but that Litton believes it is “in total compliance” with its gyroscope-repair contracts. Litton’s stock fell $2.75 a share to $67 on the NYSE.
