SIMI VALLEY : Arts Center to Remain at City Site

A Simi Valley arts center will remain open with the help of the city.
The Simi Valley Cultural Assn., unable to pay its rent, will be allowed to stay rent-free at the city-owned former courthouse at 3190 Cochran St., a City Council subcommittee decided this week.
In exchange, the association will provide cultural services to the community and $32,700 in improvements to the facility over the next three years. The building also houses the Simi Valley Police Department and an office of the American Red Cross.
The list of improvements includes better lighting, new carpeting and a closed-circuit television between the stage and lighting booth in the 98-seat theater facility.
“We’re hoping they’ll be able to pay for the improvements with money they make from theater performances,” Deputy City Manager Bob Heitzman said.
