Volleyball / Outside hitter
Golden West, which won State women’s volleyball titles in 1991 and 1992, is well-stocked for another title run because of transfers like Emmrich. She played at South Torrance High School, then took a scholarship at Washington State last year. But after one season, she decided to return to Southern California and is playing for the Rustlers. Emmrich had 25 kills, 13 blocks and 15 digs and was selected MVP of the San Jose Tournament over the weekend. Golden West won 11 of 12 games in winning the tournament.
Other notables:
* Myra Medina of Irvine Valley finished third at the San Mateo Invitational cross-country meet and the Lasers won the team title.
* Orange Coast’s Adrienne Sweetser was sixth in the San Mateo Invitational and the Pirates finished second.
