Two 14-year-old Ventura boys have been arrested on suspicion of starting a wildfire that charred 10 acres of brush near Arroyo Verde Park, police said Monday.
The boys were arrested late last week when they were brought to the Ventura Police Station by their parents for questioning by detectives. Both were cited and released.
The blaze broke out Sept. 26 after the boys piled debris on a jogging trail, doused it with a liquid accelerant, then set it on fire, Sgt. Bob Anderson said. It burned for several hours in an area northeast of the park at 5005 Foothill Road.
The two boys were interviewed at the scene of the fire, but they denied involvement and told police they’d seen other people running from the area.
