Monterey Park : 4 Drive-By Suspects Released

Monterey Park police are having difficulty pressing charges against five suspects arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting near Mark Keppel High School because only one witness can identify them at the scene, said Lt. Paul Torres.
Two adult suspects taken into custody after the shooting were released Saturday, and two juveniles were let go from Eastlake Juvenile Detention Center on Tuesday. The remaining juvenile suspect is still in custody at the Monterey Park Jail, Torres said. No names were released.
The shooting occurred around noon Friday about a block away from the high school campus. Four Latino students from Keppel High were shot by gunmen described to police as Asians in a passing car. The campus has had conflicts between Asian and Latino students.
Torres said the four were wounded in the legs by a small-caliber handgun, possibly a .22. They were treated and released from Garfield Hospital and San Gabriel Community Hospital.
