THOUSAND OAKS : Cal Lutheran to Host Talk on Anti-Semitism

The topic of anti-Semitism before and after the Holocaust will be discussed today at the first of a fall series of lectures on religious intolerance at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks.
Aaron Breitbart, a senior research assistant at the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles, will talk about anti-Semitic incidents that have occurred since World War II in a talk at 10 a.m.
The public lecture series, “Tolerance and Beyond,” will continue every Monday at 10 a.m. in the university’s Preus-Brandt Forum through Nov. 22. The following speakers are scheduled:
Sept. 27: Jerry Kalish of Habitat for Humanity will discuss the work of the international organization.
Oct. 4: Jack G. Shaheen, professor of mass communications at Southern Illinois University, will talk about Middle Eastern stereotypes.
Oct. 11: Milan Panic, former Yugoslav prime minister, will discuss events in his region.
Oct. 18: CLU faculty and students discuss “The Rhetoric of Intolerance.”
Nov. 1: Hoda Nahmoudi, professor of sociology at CLU, will talk about the efforts to look beyond tolerance.
Nov. 15: Lyle Murley, CLU English professor, will discuss “Absence and Presence: A Study of the Jew in Medieval English Literature.”
Nov. 22: John Bjornbye, consul general of Norway, will discuss the breakup of the Soviet Union.
