A 76-year-old Yorba Linda man was fatally hurt Tuesday when his car collided with a van, apparently after he drove through a red light, police said.
Karl Szobonya died at UCI Medical Center in Orange a little more than an hour after the 1:45 p.m. collision, police said.
Szobonya drove his 1983 Toyota off the Orange Freeway at Ball Road and through a red light, said Traffic Officer Chuck Knight. Szobonya’s car collided with a van driven by a 22-year-old Downey man, police said.
Investigators said it did not appear that drugs or alcohol were involved in the fatal collision. The Downey man was not injured and was not cited in connection with the death, pending further investigation, police said.
