LOS ANGELES : $4.59 Million Sought for Overtime Pay in Riot Alert
- Share via
The Los Angeles Police Commission on Tuesday asked the City Council to reimburse $4.59 million spent on overtime for officers deployed on April 18 and 19 after the announcement of the verdicts in the Rodney G. King federal civil rights trial.
Riots erupted last year when four police officers were acquitted in an earlier state trial, and Police Chief Willie L. Williams ordered a massive deployment this spring out of concern that similar violence might follow the verdicts in the second trial.
Two of the officers were found guilty in the second trial, however, and there was no repeat of the violence.
