A plan to clean up a hazardous waste site in Santa Fe Springs will be presented Sept. 1 by officials of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
A public meeting has been scheduled for 7 p.m. at the library, 11700 E. Telegraph Road. The federal agency will accept questions and comments on the plan until Sept. 12.
EPA officials also will present details of the cleanup at a City Council meeting Aug. 26 at 7 p.m.
The cleanup plan involves removing about 78,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil from a 43-acre site on Los Nietos Road and covering it with a layer of asphalt. Officials would then install a gas flare to burn off dangerous fumes.
The site is bordered by Santa Fe Springs Road and Greenleaf Avenue. It is located south of St. Paul High School and a Fedco food distribution warehouse.
