Dan Radison, a first base coach for the San Diego Padres, was hired as manager of the Brisbane Bandits of the Australian Baseball League.
Radison, 42, played for the St. Louis Cardinals organization from 1972-76 and has a nine-year minor league managing record of 462-400. He spent the last three seasons managing Albany of the double-A Eastern League.
He will be the second major leaguer to manage in the Australian League in 1993-94. Tom Trebelhorn, a Chicago Cub coach and former manager of the Milwaukee Brewers, signed a one-year contract with the Perth Heat.
Each Australian team is allowed four American players on its roster.
