17-Year-Old Dies After Car Hits Him

FULLERTON — A driver said he fell asleep at the wheel Friday before he hit a 17-year-old who died hours later at a local hospital, police said.
Miengfu Tsai, 64, of Fullerton was driving east in the 1300 block of W. Malvern Avenue about 1:30 p.m. when he dozed off, Lt. Rex Strickland said.
“He thought he hit the curb but he actually hit a 17-year-old standing near the curb with his bicycle,” Strickland said.
Byron Stephan McCallum of Whittier died at 7:45 p.m. at UCI Medical Center in Orange of head trauma and broken bones.
