Man Arrested in Honduras in Fatal Shooting

Honduran authorities have arrested a murder suspect wanted for allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend twice in the chest at her Van Nuys apartment, Los Angeles police said Thursday.
Jose Herminio Carmona, 37, was taken into custody in Honduras on Wednesday in connection with the September, 1992, slaying of Alejandrina Guevara Lopez, 27, Detective Phil Morritt said.
Carmona had confronted Lopez outside her Van Nuys apartment at 6841 Sepulveda Blvd., and demanded she go with him, Morritt said. When Lopez refused, Carmona followed her inside her apartment and shot her in the kitchen, he said.
Detectives learned of Carmona’s friends and family in Honduras from personal papers discovered in the apartment. Authorities subsequently issued a warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody at an undisclosed location earlier this week.
Since both Carmona and Lopez were Honduran nationals, the suspect will be tried in that country, Morritt said.
