String of Ribbons to Mark Race Unity Day

Members of the Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is will string together multicolored ribbons to symbolize cultural equality when the group holds Race Unity Day at Mission Park in downtown Ventura on Sunday.
The 2 p.m. event will feature music and guest speakers, including Ventura Mayor Greg Carson, to focus attention on what Baha’is believe to be the most challenging moral issue facing the country: prejudice.
Race Unity Day was begun in 1957 by the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of the United States as a way to promote harmony and understanding between people of different cultures. It is traditionally observed on the second Sunday of June.
Organizers invite anyone who is interested to bring a three-foot colored ribbon to add to the “chain of unity” to be woven at the event.
