Valley College men’s basketball assistant Joe Jackson was named a full-time assistant coach of the women’s team at Oregon on Monday.
Jackson, 31, coached the past two seasons at Valley and spent the previous three at Campbell Hall High.
While at Campbell Hall, Jackson led the team to its first winning season and a berth in the Southern Section V-A Division final in 1990-91.
Jackson was one of two coaches named to assist first-year Coach Jody Runge. Stephanie Osburn, an Oregon assistant last year, retained her position.
“I think the most attractive thing to me about Joe is that he couldn’t wait to get here,” Runge said in a press release. “He’s like a pot with a lid on it, boiling over with excitement.”
Jackson is the second coach from the area high school ranks to land a coaching position within the Oregon basketball program in the past year. Former Cleveland boys’ Coach Bob Braswell recently completed his first year as an assistant with the men’s team.
Runge said she expects Jackson’s familiarity with Los Angeles to help the Ducks successfully recruit in the region.
