Pratt & Whitney Wages Tied to Productivity: The jet engine maker and union leaders have reached agreement on a package of concessions that would save 2,300 jobs at the company’s Connecticut plants. A proposed $2-an-hour cut in wages was replaced by an unprecedented agreement to tie wage levels to productivity, with wages dropping in steps up to $2 an hour if the productivity goals are not met, the company and union officials said. If the accord is confirmed by the International Assn. of Machinists, the East Hartford, Conn.-based company will go through with its plan to close its Southington plant and shut down half its manufacturing operations in North Haven, but those jobs would be moved to other Connecticut facilities.
