Five Local Surfers Advance at Huntington Beach

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Five Orange County surfers advanced Friday during Round 3 of the Richie Collins Drug Use Is Life Abuse surfing competition at the Huntington Beach river jetties.
Collins (Newport Beach), Dino Andino (San Clemente), Ryan Simmons (Seal Beach), Donovan Frankenreiter (Mission Viejo) and Jason Senn (San Clemente) remain in the competition, which continues at 7 a.m. today.
Rob Machado of Cardiff, the defending champion, also advanced. But Taylor Knox of Carlsbad, the points leader on the Bud Surf Tour, was eliminated in the second round after being penalized for interfering with Chris Frohoff. Frohoff is from Manhattan Beach.
