Storm Drain Cleanup to Begin in August

A project to clean out about 2,700 storm drains in Van Nuys, San Fernando and Westlake Village will begin in August, Los Angeles County Supervisor Ed Edelman’s office announced Friday.
Joel Bellman, a spokesman for Edelman, said the announcement was made to alert San Fernando Valley-area residents that the system is being maintained, particularly after the intense rains that flooded streets earlier this year.
“Since the Valley has been heavily impacted by some of these storms, we feel they would want to know the work will be started,” Bellman said.
The announcement is also intended to lure more bidders into the arena, Bellman said. Bids for the project--expected to run from $70,000 to $105,000--are scheduled to be opened June 29.
The work is expected to take about 45 days and will be finished by October, he said.
