Ken Schrader won the pole for the Cola-Cola 600 Winston Cup stock car race at Charlotte Motor Speedway with a record qualifying lap of 177.352 m.p.h.
For Schrader, who drives a Chevrolet, it was the 13th pole of his career and his second at the 1.5-mile superspeedway.
