A 40-year-old man was crushed to death Monday morning when he was run over by a tractor-trailer in the parking lot of Albertson’s Distribution Center, police said.
Jose Oliveira Carreirro of Norwalk was standing in the parking lot on North Puente Street operating an electric forklift when the accident occurred, Police Traffic Officer Greg Parker said.
“The tractor-trailer was making a U-turn in the parking lot and Carreirro didn’t see it and got into its path,” Parker said. “It was really tragic, and happened very quickly.”
The driver of the tractor-trailer apparently did not know that he had struck Carreirro until he heard the sound of the forklift dragging underneath the tractor-trailer, Parker said.
Carreirro was taken to Brea Community Hospital but died shortly of internal injuries.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not cited in the accident because he was not at fault, Parker said.
