Virginia Rapids Wins the Peter Pan Stakes

NEW YORK — Virginia Rapids surged from the back of the six-horse field for a 1 3/4-length victory in the Peter Pan Stakes for 3-year-olds at Belmont Park on Sunday.
Ridden by Eddie Maple and carrying 114 pounds, the son of Riverman ran 1 1/8 miles on a fast track in 1:48 2/5.
Colonial Affair, ridden by Julie Krone and carrying 117 pounds, was second, four lengths ahead of Itaka under Robbie Davis.
Virginia Rapids earned $90,000 with his second victory in five starts this year. Virginia Rapids returned $5, $2.80 and $2.10. Colonial Affair paid $3.20 and $2.10 and Itaka paid $3.20.
