Hurling Invective in Troubled Waters : ‘I Tried My Very Best’
- Share via
In a few weeks, I shall leave City Hall for the last time as mayor. Because of the faith the people of Los Angeles have had in me, I have no anxiety about submitting my work to the judgment of history.
That is why I am so disappointed by comments by Maxine Waters, a woman whom I regarded as a friend and colleague. I suppose that this kind of back-stabbing is the stuff of politics, and that after a lifetime in this business I should not be surprised by her comments. Yet Waters’ betrayal saddens me, perhaps because it shows that she will divide our community just to grab a headline.
For my part, I will move ahead secure in the knowledge that although I have not accomplished all that I set out to do, I tried my very best.
