Writer Insults State’s Citizens

If Arnold Steinberg’s article, “It’s the Feds Who Are Out of Line, Not Pat Nolan” (Commentary, May 9) is typical of the advice he gives his political clients, they had better beware.
Mr. Steinberg suggests that there is nothing unusual about a public official, supposedly as politically knowledgeable as Pat Nolan, attending a meeting with a group of business executives, accepting an envelope from them (which Steinberg implies was not opened by Mr. Nolan) and then returning to his office, handing the envelope to a staff member and asking, “What was this all about?”
Mr. Nolan is either very naive, not very bright or not very honest, as the federal prosecutors have alleged. Whichever of these that apply, Mr. Steinberg’s judgment insults the intelligence of every citizen of this state.
