The Sixth Street Bistro, an inviting little place opened nearly a year ago by George and Donna Moussalli, is nestled on a narrow, quaint stretch of--where else--6th Street in San Pedro.
Inside, one wall is composed of old bricks, another, dominated by a mural of grape pickers. Overhead, brass and wood ceiling fans gently revolve, lending the place a rustic elegance.
For lunch, chef Rick Reyes suggests a smoked salmon salad ($9.95), with slices of salmon resting on a variety of mixed greens drizzled with lime vinaigrette emboldened with tequila. Another salad features grilled shrimp, grilled shitake mushrooms, papaya, sweet red onion, mixed greens and a ginger orange vinaigrette.
Outside, sandwiched between the two outdoor tables, is a chalk board listing the daily specials. One recent special was duck tacos ($6.95), shredded breast of duck stuffed into red and blue corn tortillas.
Some good starters for dinner are the crab cakes ($8.50), the sauteed soft shell crab ($8.50), wild mushrooms sauteed with garlic ($5.95) and seared tuna with avocado ($7.95).
From the grill are the New York steak with peppercorn sauce ($16.95), medallions of pork with a wild mushroom sauce ($12.95) and lamb chops with a bordelaise ($16.95).
One of the most popular dishes is the lobster ravioli ($14.95), a homemade pasta filled with chunks of lobster and covered with a fresh dill cream sauce.
Sixth Street Bistro is at 354 W. 6th St. in San Pedro. Open Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., Sunday through Thursday 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
