School Calendar

The Los Angeles Unified School Board demonstrated its inability to lead by voting to allow each school to decide its own calendar (“Schools Freed to End Year-Round Schedules,” May 4). In an effort not to make a decision which might appear controversial, the board is risking further financial hardship. If all the schools with the option to change do not vote to return to the traditional September-to-June calendar, we will be faced with running half-empty buses on two calendar schedules. It is now up to the parents in every school to lead the district back to the traditional calendar and save the district the unnecessary expense of running two different calendars all over the city.
