Bumper Crops From Fewer Acres: China is expecting a bumper harvest this summer, barring any major natural disaster in the next two months, according to an official newspaper. The State Statistics Bureau said this year’s output will probably match last year’s 440 million metric tons, even though farm acreage has decreased by 1%, according to the China Daily. China has seen surplus crops for the last three years and has about 50 million metric tons of grain in storage, according to the official Xinhua News Agency. Officials have said the nation’s agricultural output is lagging behind population growth, however.
