2nd-Ranked CSUN Sweeps New Mexico

The Cal State Northridge softball team swept New Mexico, 4-0 and 10-1, in a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday in Albuquerque, N.M.
Second-ranked Northridge improved to 38-5-1, 13-1 in conference play. New Mexico dropped to 27-17, 6-8.
In the first game, pitcher Kathy Blake (15-2) threw a one-hitter, striking out four and allowing only a single to cleanup hitter Heather Medearis.
Northridge leadoff hitter Terri Pearson drove in two of three Matador runs in the fourth inning with a single. Beth Calcante and Missy Cress each had two hits.
In the second game, Northridge slugged 13 hits and capitalized on five New Mexico errors. Cress (two hits, three runs batted in) hit a solo homer in the fourth inning to give the Matadors a 3-0 lead. Northridge scored another five runs in the sixth to take an 8-0 advantage.
Calcante went two for four with five runs batted in.
Amy Windmiller (17-3), a junior right-hander, struck out 12, allowed seven hits and one earned run.
