Man Fatally Shot Outside His Home

A Van Nuys man was fatally shot outside his home for an unknown reason, authorities said Saturday.
Rogelio Humberto Reta, 34, was shot by one or more attackers shortly after 8:30 p.m. Friday after he answered a knock on the door of his house in the 15700 block of Valerio Street, Los Angeles Police Detective James Rahm said.
The men at the door asked for someone whose name Reta and his wife did not recognize, Reta’s wife told police. Reta then walked outside to speak with the men, who opened fire, striking him in the chest, Rahm said.
The assailants fled on foot. Reta was taken to Valley Presbyterian Hospital, where he later died, Rahm said.
