PANORAMA CITY : Blythe Street to Get Camp Fire Club

In an effort to raise the self-esteem of youths on troubled Blythe Street in Panorama City, the Camp Fire Boys & Girls will open the first San Fernando Valley club based in an at-risk community, officials said Friday.
The new club will also mark the first time in the Valley that the club’s leadership will be bilingual, said Myrna Carver, regional director of the Camp Fire San Fernando Valley Service Center in Panorama City.
“We want to teach the kids that they are important and they can do things for others in the community,” Carver said.
The club, which will begin meeting in about three weeks, will initially include about 15 to 20 children between the third and sixth grades. The meetings will be held inside a private apartment on Blythe Street. Police will donate the girls’ uniforms.
