COUNTYWIDE : Board Asked to OK Special Trust Fund
- Share via
Ventura County health care officials are seeking permission from the Board of Supervisors to accept private donations to fund programs for drug and alcohol abusers.
Stephen Kaplan, director of the county’s Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs, said a trust fund is needed to provide the services that government funds cannot address, however he said officials have not yet determined how much money is needed to bridge that gap.
The supervisors are scheduled to act on the request at their meeting today.
“It is one of those things that the possibilities are endless,” Kaplan said. “It will be used for any number of projects that we need to provide. We would identify the gaps in service.”
He said all donations would be tax-deductible. Eventually, Kaplan said, officials hope to have enough money so that they can create an endowment and only spend the interest earned on the fund.
