Vaughn, Kirby Win Times Basketball Awards

Jacque Vaughn of Pasadena Muir High and Timicha Kirby of Lynwood have been selected the top boys’ and girls’ high school basketball players of the year in Southern California by The Times.

The two were honored Sunday at separate banquets held for all-star teams in their area.

Vaughn, a 6-foot-3 senior guard, won the George Yardley Award. Kirby, a 5-11 junior guard, was the winner of the Cheryl Miller Award.

Vaughn averaged 18 points and 15 assists in leading Muir to the Southern Section Division II-A title.

Kirby averaged 19 points and 13 rebounds for Lynwood, which won the Southern Section I-AA title and the State Division I championship.

Winners of the boys’ and girls’ player and coach of the year for each of The Times’ 11 circulation areas also were honored Sunday. They were:
