RECESSION BLUES: But the shops in Little Saigon are feeling the pinch of the recession, says Dr. Co D.L. Pham, president of the Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce. . . . A few stores have closed, though many that are having money problems have managed to say afloat because shop owners have a second job to sustain them. . . . One business that’s booming is travel. Agents report that Vietnamese-Americans are returning to the “homeland” in record numbers. But the increased travel has produced a downside: Merchants who specialize in sending packages back to Vietnam report their business way down.
