ROUNDUP : Lunar Spook Wins the Ashland Stakes

Lunar Spook, ridden by Shane Sellers for the first time, overtook favored Roamin Rachel at the top of the stretch and pulled to a 2 1/2-length victory in the $277,375 Ashland Stakes at Keeneland on Saturday.
Roamin Rachel, the 4-5 favorite ridden by Chris Antley, went to the front from the No. 1 post position, and maintained a one-length lead until the turn for home in the 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-old fillies.
Roamin Rachel was a half-length behind in third while Future Pretense was a neck back in fourth in the seven-horse field. The winning time was 1:43 2/5 over a fast track.
Lunar Spook returned $7.20, $3.80 and $2.40 while Avie’s Shadow paid $8.20 and $3.80 and Roamin Rachel returned $2.40.
Jockey Herb McCauley suffered a broken collarbone when Kiowa Cowboy fell during the running of the Cahill Road Stakes at Aqueduct.
Kiowa Cowboy took a bad step in the upper stretch and went down, throwing McCauley. The 3-year-old gelding got up immediately and limped toward the outside rail, but had to be destroyed.
Carterista broke on top and won the $100,000 Bougainvillea Handicap by 5 1/2 lengths at Hialeah.
Carterista, ridden by Carlos Lopez, was timed in 1:54 4/5 for the 1 3/16 miles on turf and paid $12.20, $5.40 and $4.60. Gary Gumbo paid $5.60 and $3.80. Spectacular Tide returned $3.60.
