Pop Goes the Greeting Card

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — A small Florida company is combining with Sony Corp. to bring the Platters and other pop acts to greeting cards.
Musical cards have been around for years, but the new variety goes beyond melodious microchips to include CDs with recording artists from Sony music labels. The cards will list for $9.95.
“Basically, it’s a conventional CD but with an array of artists and songs that relate to the card,” said Fred Massaro, chief executive of Golden Circle Corp.
The companies will offer 21 cards, and each CD will have four songs by artists ranging from Lisa Lisa to the Platters.
The “Let’s Party” card will include Jerry Lee Lewis’ “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On” and Chubby Checker’s “The Twist.”
“We try to link the song as closely as possible to the actual card,” Massaro said.
Golden Circle took in $20 million in revenue last year, primarily from promotional display racks, vending machines and hair care products.
