Capistrano Valley vs. Lynwood, 8:30 p.m.
SITE--Loyola Marymount, Gersten Pavilion
RECORDS--Capistrano Valley (24-3), Lynwood (26-0)
CAPISTRANO VALLEY--The Cougars have won 14 in a row, including a 75-49 victory over Cerritos Gahr, which lost to Lynwood by 20 and six points. Capistrano Valley is led by seniors Angie White (19.3 points, 9.3 assists) and Stacey Howes (12.2 points, 11.1 rebounds). Capistrano Valley is making its first appearance in the section finals and will rely heavily on its more inexperienced players, including junior Susan Scott (15.2 points, 9.6 rebounds) and sophomore Jennifer Garrett (12.2 rebounds). Garrett showed she can score in the big game--she had 18 in an 86-80 double-overtime semifinal victory over Long Beach Millikan--and could play a pivotal role in an upset.
LYNWOOD--The Knights are ranked second in the state and like to employ a high-pressure defense to go with their balanced offense. They’ll take what Capistrano Valley gives it. Elana Adams (19 points) is a three-point threat--she made seven in one game this season--and is averaging almost six steals per game.
KEY TO THE GAME--Capistrano Valley will have to play its best game of the season in its biggest game of the season. The Cougars can’t afford any breakdowns in concentration and must somehow take Lynwood out of its flow. The Knights, with their impressive array of talent, will need to keep their composure and remain focused.
CONSENSUS--Lynwood is 26-0. The other team has shown it is at least human. It might take a superhuman effort to stop the Knights.
