The city is sponsoring a community rally and neighborhood cleanup on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at Jerome Park.
Residents from the neighborhood bounded by Sullivan, 1st and Raitt streets and McFadden Avenue are invited to participate.
The city will supply the dumpsters and tools, said city spokeswoman Lisa Barnes.
After the cleanup, events that include entertainment, speakers discussing neighborhood pride and how to improve the quality of life will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Representatives from the Los Angeles Raiders, Los Angeles Rams and the California Angels will be on hand.
Information on job training, child care, home improvement loans, AIDS education, earthquake preparedness, graffiti removal, recreation programs and college classes will also be offered.
The rally is part of a larger city effort to combat gang violence, drug-related crime, unemployment and neighborhood deterioration. The park is at McFadden Avenue and Center Street.
