Housing Authority Contract Renewed

LA HABRA — The Orange County Housing Authority will continue to provide financial assistance to La Habra residents who can’t afford to pay their rent, under an agreement reached last week with the city.
The Housing Authority has offered help to low-income renters for the past 18 years. City Council members unanimously voted to renew the agency’s contract for another 20 years.
Most of Orange County’s smaller cities have similar agreements with the county agency. City Manager Lee Risner said La Habra is too small a city to run its own housing department. Therefore, he said, it makes sense to have the Housing Authority manage the “complex program.”
City officials said the county agency administers a federal housing program that provides low-income renters with 75% of their rent payments. The other 25% comes from the renters’ income.
