Second Opinion / COMMENTARY FROM OTHER MEDIA : LA OPINION : Mayoral Candidates Must Heal, Not Divide
- Share via
No matter who is the ultimate winner of the coming election for mayor of Los Angeles, one of his or her principal tasks will be the unification of the different communities and groups that make up the vast human conglomeration of Los Angeles. This will not be easy, but neither is it impossible. Because above all their differences, the people of Los Angeles face common problems, the solutions to which are the principal concern of the majority of the people of the city.
One big difficulty will be that the campaign will have in itself some divisive effects. Fortunately, the different communities do not necessarily respond to these kind of calls. And if this happens, it’s necessary that the leaders analyze the problems that move these communities to accept divisive attitudes.
What will facilitate the work that is fundamental for the next mayor then, we repeat, is to lead the unified community to solve its many and difficult problems.
