TENNIS ROUNDUP : Rostagno Picks Himself Up, Defeats Haarhuis

Despite the inevitable letdown, Derrick Rostagno did not get down on himself.
One day after upsetting top-ranked Jim Courier, Rostagno rallied to defeat Paul Haarhuis of the Netherlands, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, Thursday night in the U.S. Indoor tournament at Philadelphia.
“I had some trouble getting into the match,” Rostagno said. “Nothing really felt comfortable. I got a lot of confidence once I started hitting a few balls into the court.”
Third-seeded Michael Chang defeated Andrei Chesnokov of Russia, 6-2, 6-1, and No. 4 Ivan Lendl beat Jim Grabb, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).
Top-seeded Boris Becker got to the quarterfinals of the Eurocard Open with a 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) victory over Kenneth Carlsen of Denmark at Stuttgart, Germany.
Sixth-seeded Michael Stich of Germany defeated Marc Rosset, 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 7-5; seventh-seeded Wayne Ferreira of South Africa beat Omar Camporese of Italy, 5-7, 6-0, 6-3, and fifth-seeded Richard Krajicek of the Netherlands defeated Jakob Hlasek of Switzerland, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4.
Second-seeded Martina Navratilova trounced Natalia Medvedeva of Ukraine, 6-0, 6-2, in the Paris Women’s Open.
Third-seeded Conchita Martinez of Spain routed Nancy Feber of Belgium, 6-0, 6-0, No. 4 Jana Novotna of the Czech Republic beat Noelle Van Lottum of France, 6-3, 6-0, and No. 7 Julie Halard of France trounced Nathalie Herrman, also of France, 6-1, 6-1.
Zina Garrison Jackson advanced to the quarterfinals of the IGA Classic with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Sandra Cacic at Oklahoma City.
