Highland Park : Child-Care Center Meeting
- Share via
There will be a community meeting tonight to discuss plans for a child-care center on a lot owned by the city of Los Angeles at North Avenue 53.
The Community Redevelopment Agency has agreed to fund construction of a $3-million complex on the lot, which will also include family housing for artists. The meeting will address whether the child-care center should serve infants and preschool-age children, only school-age children or all age groups.
At a meeting on the issue last November, some community members objected to a CRA proposal to build a center that would serve only school-age children. But Pat Griffith, a member of a Mt. Washington preschool advocacy group that is co-sponsoring the meeting tonight, said that meeting did not include broad community participation.
The meeting, which is also sponsored by Councilman Richard Alatorre and Occidental College, will be at 7 p.m. at the Yosemite Recreation Center in Eagle Rock at 1840 Yosemite Drive.
