Pregnancy

Your article on the possibility of women over 50 becoming pregnant and standing a good chance of giving birth to healthy babies (Feb. 5) is frightening. From now on, we won’t only have to worry about teen pregnancies, but we’ll be concerned with grandmothers getting pregnant.

It is indeed amazing that while the world is reaching a point of collapse (famine, poverty, scarcity of resources, destruction of the environment), USC medical researchers are interested in getting older women to produce more babies. The thrust of their research should be to prevent, not to foster, pregnancies.
