COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Piexoto Has 14 Kills as Northridge Sweeps Past Irvine in Volleyball

Sophomore outside hitter Peter Piexoto had 14 kills and seniors Ken Lynch and Axel Hager each added 12 kills as visiting Cal State Northridge swept UC Irvine, 15-5, 15-10, 15-6, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Mountain Division match.
Piexoto also had three service aces and seven digs for Northridge (8-3), which improved to 3-2 in conference play. Irvine fell to 1-6, 0-5.
BASEBALL
Oxnard 6, Cabrillo 6 (suspended)--Tim Cass had three hits, including a homer and a double, to lead Oxnard in a Hancock tournament game at Santa Maria that was called after 10 innings because of darkness.
Jon Chaparro added two hits for Oxnard, which will resume the game today at 9 a.m. and play its regularly scheduled game thereafter.
Moorpark 7, Golden West 3--A four-run fourth inning propelled Moorpark to victory in the Cypress tournament. Danny Haas (1-1) got the victory with some relief help after the fifth inning.
TRACK & FIELD
Moorpark sophomore Ken Teasley won the men’s javelin with a throw of 188 feet 10 inches to highlight performances by Raider athletes in a season-opening, five-team non-scoring meet at Cerritos College.
