CLEARWATER, Fla. — The Florida Audubon Society is offering a $7,000 reward for tips leading to the arrest of an ax-wielding culprit who chopped down a tree containing a bald eagle’s nest.
In December, someone cut down a tree containing an American bald eagle’s nest with an unhatched egg. Florida law prohibits chopping down a tree that is home to the eagle, a threatened species.
Environmentalists recovered the egg, and cared for it until a chick was hatched. Recently, the healthy chick was released to the wild.
