William Ewing (Slew) Hester, a past United States Tennis Assn. president and chairman of the U.S. Open, died in Jackson, Miss., after a 20-year battle with rheumatoid arthritis. He was 80. Hester is recognized as the builder of the National Tennis Center for the U.S. Open in Flushing Meadow, N.Y., in 1978.
