Maya Angelou’s Poem
What a magnificent tribute to the people of America! I was rendered speechless by Maya Angelou’s “This Bright Morning Dawning.” I can hear the ancestors, “bought, stolen, arriving on a nightmare prayer for a dream,” saying to Dr. Angelou, “Daughter, you, and the likes of you, are the dream. We salute you!”
For those of us who listened with our hearts, and who yearn to stand firmly on the “rock,” in the shelter of the “tree,” by a peaceful “river,” the simple phrase “good morning” will forever more be awash with new meaning.
