BURBANK : Library Gets $96,000 Adult Literacy Grant

The Burbank Public Library has received a $96,000 state grant to establish an adult literacy program.
The grant is to get the program started, but the state also is committed to providing support in future years, said Holly Hinman, the city’s library services director.
The money will be used to hire a literacy coordinator, a clerk and a part-time administrative analyst. The funds also will be used to purchase literacy-related materials and tutor training.
Volunteers will provide English-speaking adults with one-on-one basic literacy instruction. The goal is to match 125 people with tutors in the coming year, Hinman said.
