John McMillan, a former deputy city manager in Ventura, has been hired as director of general services for the city of Simi Valley. He will supervise 50 employees and oversee budget and personnel matters.
McMillan, 52, will assume the new job Jan. 19. His annual salary will be $73,992, officials said.
He replaces former director Michael Yelton, who left the city in May to become assistant city manager of Duarte.
McMillan spent 16 years with the city of Ventura before leaving in 1987 to become a management consultant. Since 1988 he has worked for Shannon Associates, a Sacramento consulting firm.
“Of many well-qualified candidates, John was a clear leader for this position,” Simi Valley City Manager Lin Koester said. “His experience in Ventura County, as well as his technical knowledge and background, will enable John to work to his full potential from his first day on the job.”
