Linebacker Ward Wins MVP Honor at Northridge

Bryon Ward, a senior linebacker from Riverside, was honored as most valuable player at Cal State Northridge’s football awards banquet Thursday night. Senior defensive tackle Mike Zorn of Hacienda Heights was recognized as the team’s most improved player.
Quarterback Marty Fisher, a senior from Covina, earned the offensive coaches’ award for the second consecutive season. Safety Gerald Ponder, a senior from Corona, was honored as the team’s top defensive player. The Kathryn Sefton Memorial Award for scholarship, leadership and athletic ability was presented to Jim Warren, a senior fullback from Huntington Beach.
Travis Hall, a freshman from Chaminade High, earned the Black Shirt offensive-player award for his scout-team and special-teams play. Linebacker Miguel Cerna, a freshman from Burbank High who redshirted this season, was presented with the Black Shirt defensive-player award.
