Mater Dei 82, Santiago 40--Reggie Geary scored 24 points and had four assists for Mater Dei (27-1). Teammate Jerry Jones had nine rebounds.
Mater Dei will play Arlington (19-7) Tuesday night at a site to be determined.
Juan Castro scored 16 points for Santiago (17-9).
Huntington Beach 44, West Covina 41--Matt Ambrose scored four points with three minutes left in play to help Huntington Beach (17-10) hold on. The Oilers play Indio in the second round Tuesday night.
Huntington Beach fought back from a six-point deficit at the end of the third quarter to take a five-point lead with five minutes left. Tommy Walden scored 14 points and Jeff Vanderwal had 10 rebounds for Huntington Beach. West Covina is 20-6.
Newhall Hart 70, Ocean View 66--Ali Peek sank a six-foot jump shot from the lane with 15 seconds to play, and Erik Stephens added a pair of free throws with three seconds left to lift Hart (17-9) at home.
The final points decided a battle of baskets in which the lead changed hands 11 times--eight in the fourth quarter--and capped a valiant rally by Hart, which trailed, 41-29, early in the third quarter and, at times, appeared on the verge of being blown out.
Stephens, who scored 18 points, had a game-high 15 rebounds and Steffe, who scored 17, had 14.
Peek, who scored 15 in the second half, led all players with 21 points. Hart outrebounded the Seahawks (17-10), 49-27.
“They got the ball to the big guy and he hurt us bad,” Ocean View Coach Jim Harris said. “I think we played a little afraid inside.”
