The Region : Test Lane for Motorcycles

In a six-month safety trial, motorcyclists are being allowed to use the El Monte Busway, which covers 11 miles along the San Bernardino Freeway from El Monte to Los Angeles.
The experiment, intended to test whether motorcycle and automobile traffic can be separated, was begun last month and will last through June when state Department of Transportation officials said they will evaluate the program.
Normally, bus lanes are for vehicles carrying three or more passengers.
