Nothing Comparable

In regard to A. Sal Alpert’s letter “Trade Imbalance” (Jan. 29), Alpert states: “Who would pay $35,000 to $40,000 for a Japanese car, when a comparable American car can be bought for half that amount?”
Why does Alpert think Americans buy Japanese cars?
The problem is you can’t buy a comparable American car at any price.
